Unfortunately, all the signs of aging, stress, environmental pollution, gravity, anxiety and other factors show up on our faces and there’s no escaping it. How anxious, upset, or stressed out we are can be made out by the number of lines and wrinkles that form on our faces every time we move our facial muscles.
Facial folds, lines, and wrinkles can make us look much older than we actually are and can easily give away our age. The facial skin falls victim to acne, pimples, pigmentation and many other skin issues.
Face creams, lotions, serums, face packs, peels and other cosmetic products and treatments can only help revive and rejuvenate your skin to a certain extent. Wouldn’t it be great if you could combine the benefits of all these facial treatments into one treatment to rejuvenate your face once and for all? Well, that’s exactly what a facelift will do for you.
What Is a Facelift?
A facelift, also known as a rhytidectomy, is a type of cosmetic procedure that reduces or eliminates fine lines, folds, wrinkles and creases from the face, making it look almost 10 to 20 years younger.
It can remove all the signs of aging, stress, and the other adverse factors and make the face look younger, revived, and rejuvenated. The forehead, cheeks, and jawline can be improved in appearance with the help of a facelift. It can help turn back the clock on your look and reverse all the adverse effects of exposure to harsh elements like pollution, gravity, and the sun.
A facelift will also remove any excess fat and tissue from the face and make it look leaner, more toned, and firm. It will tighten the underlying facial muscles to create a more attractive facial contours and uplift the overall facial structure. It will make the face look more aesthetically pleasing with much better angles, contour, shape, and proportions.
How Is a Facelift Performed?
First, you and your surgeon will discuss what your goals are so that your surgeon will get a clear picture of what type of facelift to perform – mini facelift, standard facelift, endoscopic facelift, etc. The treatment will be customized to fit your own individual needs.
To begin the surgery, your doctor will administer an anesthetic to help you feel more comfortable during the surgical process. He will then start by making small incisions in the desired areas of the face like along the hairline, above the ears, forehead, above the brow line, the cheeks and jawline, and the chin area. The skin flaps are lifted up and the excess fatty deposits and tissue are removed slowly either surgically or with liposuction.
The underlying facial muscles are tightened to minimize muscle movement while smiling, frowning, etc. This is done to reduce the further appearance of lines, folds, and wrinkles on the face. The cheeks, jawline, and chin area are tightened and the skin is stretched back down on these areas and sutured up. Any excess skin is also removed if necessary.
The incision lines will fade away slowly and the application of topical creams will help too. Bruising, redness and swelling will subside in a few days.
