What is SkinPen® Precision?
SkinPen® Precision by Crown Aesthetics is an award-winning, FDA-approved microneedling device. Engineered and made in the USA, the device is designed to safely and effectively fight wrinkles and acne scars in as little as three sessions.
SkinPen® Precision has been graded based on multiple nationally recognized scales and the results show that over 80% of patients see noticeable results at one month post-treatment. 90% of patients said they would recommend SkinPen® Precision to family and friends.
What is Microneedling?
Microneedling is a non-surgical aesthetic procedure that targets skin irregularities such as wrinkles, sagging skin, stretch marks and acne scars. It involves using a small device equipped with tiny sterile needles, hence the name microneedling.
In a typical microneedling session, a doctor or aesthetician will gently move the microneedling device across the skin. The needles create tiny punctures that mimic injuries. The body responds by producing collagen and elastin to start the healing process.
As we age, our bodies produce less collagen and elastin. These proteins help skin stay firm and flexible. With less production, skin can start to sag, crease and wrinkle. Microneedling prompts the body to produce more of these proteins. The result is firmer, smoother, and younger looking skin.
What is ProGen PRP?
ProGen PRP is an FDA-approved platelet concentration system that quickly and efficiently separates platelets from a blood sample to provide platelet-rich plasma. Plasma is the component of blood that contains nutrients, hormones and proteins that are vital to repairing parts of the body.
When applied to the skin, platelet-rich plasma works to repair damage and rejuvenate skin from the inside out. ProGen PRP can produce platelet-rich plasma from just a small drop of blood. The plasma is then applied to skin via the SkinPen® Precision microneedling session.

The Consultation For SkinPen® Precision with ProGen PRP
Your SkinPen® Precision and ProGen PRP consultation starts with a meeting with Dr. Goretti Ho Taghva at LEA Plastic Surgery in Newport Beach. Dr. Ho Taghva will inquire about your medical history and skincare goals. After an assessment of the desired target areas, Dr. Ho Taghva will determine whether you are a suitable candidate for SkinPen® Precision with ProGen PRP and she will thoroughly explain the process.
What to Expect During The SkinPen® Precision and ProGen PRP Procedure
The SkinPen® Precision and ProGen PRP treatment starts by taking a small amount of blood and placing it in the ProGen PRP system to extract the platelet-rich plasma. The doctor will gently cleanse your skin and apply a small amount of topical anesthesia to minimize any discomfort.
Once the skin is prepped, the doctor will apply the platelet-rich plasma using the SkinPen® Precision device. The device creates hundreds to thousands of tiny punctures per second. This prompts the body to start the natural healing process, which includes inflammation, proliferation and remodeling.
The entire procedure takes approximately 30 minutes. You may feel a small amount of discomfort and see some redness. However, this should go away shortly after the treatment. There is little to no downtime needed, so you can return to normal activities within 24 hours.
What Are The Side Effects of SkinPen® Precision and ProGen PRP?
One of the main benefits of SkinPen® Precision and ProGen PRP is that patients experience very minimal side effects from the procedure. Immediately following the procedure you may experience mild discomfort, facial redness, slight peeling or flaking, and sun sensitivity. These side effects are normal and should subside after about 24 to 72 hours.
SkinPen® Precision FAQS
SkinPen® Precision creates miniscule punctures in the skin to mimic injuries. This causes the skin to produce more collagen and elastin in the affected areas. ProGen PRP extracts platelet-rich plasma that is applied to the skin in the same areas that are being microneedled. This further enriches the skin with proteins and nutrients that promote healthier, smoother and more radiant looking skin.
The actual procedure takes approximately 30 minutes. However, you will also want to factor in the preparation and post-procedure aftercare. The entire process may take up to an hour.
Microneedling and platelet-rich plasma are non-surgical aesthetic treatments that require little to now downtime. After the treatment, you can get back to your normal activities. However, you may want to avoid strenuous workouts for a day or two after the treatment. You can apply makeup and sunscreen the day after the treatment.
Most patients see results after three sessions. Depending on how far the treatments are spaced out, you can expect to see results in as little as one month.
SkinPen® Precision with ProGen PRP should not be used on patients who have open wounds, irritated skin, sores or active skin cancer in the desired treatment areas. Patients with hemostatic dysfunction, hemorrhagic disorders, and allergies to stainless steel and anesthetics should also avoid the treatment. Your doctor can advise you on whether any pre-existing conditions will conflict with the treatment.
